Another tooth gone...

When Caleb was six months old, he got his first tooth, and I said, "His little face is going to change so much with teeth." Today he lost his third tooth, his first on the top and I thought, "he is losing his top teeth and his face is going to change so much...."
Once Caleb told me it was coming out I grabbed my camera....
A few minutes later, and a new look for Caleb....

My dear Donna, as much as I've tried, I cannot find a way to stop our little boys from growing up and changing!!! And it happens oh, so fast, too! Today my little baby turned 17! I don't know when it happened, but it did. Great photos of your growing boy!!

to grab a camera! I am always sad at the changes they go through. Emily is always so slow to lose teeth that it has been bearable. There has never been more than one "hole" at a time. Noah hasn't even lost his first tooth and he will be 6 soon. Of coarse the dentist may have other ideas about that.... For some reason kids seem to grow and change over the summer so much. Maybe it is all the sunshine.

Vacation Bible School...

Yesterday our church began VBS. I don't know why, but we have always had it at the very end of the summer. For the third year, I am leading the music. I literally get real pumped to get the new cd and dvd to learn the song and dance moves. It is so fun for me to be up on stage leading music. Probably has something to do with me wanting to perform Riverdance for all of you one day...Anyway, this year we are doing Avalanche Ranch and so our dances have a bit of country to them. While I am by no means a country fan, I love the dances. And a lot of the songs are familiar ones, like Steven Curtis Chapman's Great Adventure, and Chris Tomlin's Forever, so I am pumped to have "moves" for these songs.
My girls and I went last night, all of us with pig tails in our hair and me in a cowboy hat. Caleb and Mike were invited by my dad to go to Atlanta to go see the Cardinals and the Braves. I had to put the Cards first, because that is who they were cheering for, my dad being a lifelong fan. Originally the game started at 1 p.m., but ESPN wanted to cover it, so they changed it to 8 p.m. Atlanta is 3 hours from here, and of course the game went into extra innings....I saw my guys at 2:30 this morning. (Cards one 7-2 in the 10th scoring 5 runs in the 10th after they decided to leave...)
And so, for the rest of the week, in the evenings, I will help lead "the ranch" This really is a joy for me. I'm sure I will have plenty of pictures to show, especially in Elisa's preschool class. They have a covered wagon they sit in for story time, and a horsie they ride on while trying to lasso a cow. In the end, though, I hope we all learn more about God, get more excited about our relationship with Him, and have a great time as we see the God is real....yeehaw!

Zucchini

I planted a vegetable garden for the first time ever this year, since my pumpkins did so well after not even knowing I was planting them. They are, by the way fully ripe and ready for fall...
I planted zucchini, spaghetti squash, tomatos, and red bell peppers. While I am waiting for everything else to ripen, my zucchini has been producing veggies for over a month now and Mike and I have enjoyed many nights of it. Here is a recipe my mom sent me from my Uncle Bob. It is quite yummy, and easy...
Uncle Bob's receipe:
Zucchini Boats
Wash zucchini, cut off both ends and then slice in
half horizontally.
Dig out pulp with teaspoon and chop up with 2 green
onions or 2 thin onion slices.
Place together in small bowl with 2 pats of butter on
top. Microwave 2 minutes and mix in 1/2 finely
chopped tomato.
Turn zucchini shells upside down and microwave 2
minutes. Replace pulp mixture in shells, sprinkle 1/2
package Good Seasons Italian dressing mix over, top
with Parmesan cheese and microwave another 2 minutes

Walking with pneumonia...or running, skipping...

It's never a good sign when, at 11 in the morning, Bekah is taking a nap in front of the t.v. She had a bad night and was up coughing a lot, and when I went to lay with her about 4 a.m. she was really warm and was wheezing. Being the organized person I am, I could not find a thermometer, so when I called the doctor office all I could say was "she feels hot."
So, Bekah and I went to the doctor yesterday. The Dr. thought possible strep throat until he looked in her throat and heard her lungs. Her throat was a little red, but her lungs sounded real bad. After two blood tests, he diagnosed her with walking pneumonia. Hers is bacterial, which he says is better than viral, just takes longer to get over.
Now we break out our nebulizer which has been neglected for over two years , and mix her antibiotic in with pudding because it tastes so bad.
Yesterday Bekah was puny and quiet (very rare), today she is back, full voice and all (she doesn't know how to just talk, it's really loud) and skipping around asking " when is my breathing treatment, and do I get more pudding?"

and Neal is feeling ripped off ... he didn't get pudding treatments and he certainly needed more than a couple of days to feel like skipping! he did, however, ride Evan's new birthday bike down the hall of his office (just to test it out, for Evan ... because one has to be sure) guess he is all better now, even without the pudding

I know first hand that it is no fun. I was hacking and coughing during the blogger's picnic and that whole week - only to find when I got home that I had pneumonia. It's definitely a bummer to spend your vacation with that!

Out with the old, in with the new...

Last Friday I decided I was really going to catch up on my laundry. My girls had no clean underwear, and, well there was just a lot to do. So, I had everyone bring me their dirty clothes and I started my first load. The water filled to the top and then it just grunted at me. It wouldn't shake, spin, turn, nothing. I tried different cycles, but all it would do was add water.

Good bye, dear friends....thanks for all my clean clothes...

And so I called my dad, who was supposed to have all the answers. He thought the transmission had gone out, though he couldn't say for sure but gave me the number of a guy who would charge me $50 to come look at it. After talking to Mike, we decided we would just go ahead and get a new one. I had my mom's machine that was 15 years old. Our dryer had also seen a few days. We bought it used 9 years ago from someone who had bought it used...
And so our adventure began last weekend..What brand? What store, price, front load or top load? Top of the line, middle of the line, best deal, free delivery, haul away....and, cleaning underwear by hand...
In the end we got a front load washer with it's matching mate, and spent more than I had planned , but they look so good next to each other!!
I am now in the midst of trying to get all the laundry done while figuring out what to do with all that was shoved in my laundry room in the first place. The nice thing about the front load is I think Caleb is now able to do his own laundry....Bekah just likes to sit in front of the washer and watch the clothes go round and round....after pushing all the buttons, of course. Oh, and did I mention how really bad standing water smells when you procrastinate taking out a tub full of wet clothes and dumping out the water in buckets?

Hello, new, faster, energy saving friends

So glad they are also a source of entertainment...

Your old washer looks exactly like MY old washer, which also bit the dust during our "January from you-know-where!" But I didn't get the front loaders. Somehow the argument, "But ALL my friends are getting them!" didn't work on my hubby!!!!

A Patriotic evening...

Last night, at the Ampitheater behind our courthouse, we had a "Patriotic Concert." This is the second year I know of, that we have done this. Our church has been invited to sing in it the last two years, but I have found myself too busy to do this. Last night I regretted that.
First of all, I had no clue how big this thing was. We were a liitle late getting out of the house. Mike couldn't decide if he was going or not, since he had been throwing up all afternoon feeling under the weather. (He didn't go) Anyway, I drove over to the parking lot and the closer I got I realized parking was not going to be easy. So, I decided to park across the street at the big Baptist church with plenty of parking...none there either. So, I went down a block and parked at my old faithful parking lot...my church.
The kids and I walked over to the Greenbelt, as we call it, and it was amazing the amount of people that were there. Smallworld went last year and told me how good it was, so I thought I would stroll up and sit with them. (did you even go, Sarah?) There was no way I could find anyone in that crowd. So, we sat, after getting our 25 cent hot dogs (gaack) with no condiments, and enjoyed the music.
Now, I really like patriotic music. I am one of those people who get real choked up singing it, and know all the words. Mom has this tape we would listen to over and over again on the Fourth of July sitting on the front porch watching fireworks. I loved that tape (she will probably break it out on Wed., if it is still working...) Anyway, one of my favorite parts was when they sang the "theme song" to each branch of the military, and the men and women from each branch stood up. And they sang Battle Hymn of the Republic (probably my favorite) . Great is Thy Faithfulness, This is How if Feels to Be Free, Oh Happy Day, America the Beautiful....
It was a great evening. At the end people were standing, waving their flags, and singing. So, next year, I hope to not be "so busy" and take time out to practice with this choir, and be a part of this fun celebration of our country.

No. After all my talk about how great it is, we opted out. My kids were CRANKY. They were actually in bed, asleep, by 8:15, and woke up 11.5 hours later much refreshed! But I'm glad you went!

Yeah, I wondered what those sounds were coming up our street. I had to turn the gas blower on extreme loud to cover the noise. Next year, I'll sit with Sarah at church and crank that baby up the moment someone starts singing a sappy song about America. X-Man

but I guess you didn't see us, what with all the crowds and such ... believe that? I don't know all the songs, but I used to know the anthem and the pledge of allegiance because I worked one summer in new york state ... and they all learned our anthem, too
