Christmas Music...

Oh, how I love Christmas music. When I was little we would listen to The Osmonds Christmas (no laughing) It was all the kids favorite in my house. We changed "It Never Snows in LA" to "It Never Snows in FLA" after we moved to Florida. We would have parts for "Pinecones and Hollyberries/ It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas."

Other albums we would listen to were : Nat King Cole Christmas, Johnny Mathis, and I think Ray Coniff, though I know need to call mom on that one...

As I got older, Amy Grant's" Tennesee Christmas" became a Christmas must, as all her Christmas albums are for me. As are Michael W. Smith's and Steven Curtis Chapman's. In the late 90's my favorite was "Emmanuel", a compilation album with many Christian artists, and then "Child of the Promise," my very favorite the last seven years. It is also a compilation album that tells the story of Christ from the prophets to the birth of Christ, including Herod and the wise men.

And then this year, my friend, Sam, gave me Andrew Peterson's "Behold the Lamb." It is another compilation cd, but it begins with Moses and the passover, and endswith the birth of Christ. Normally, I don't break out my Christmas music until the day after Thanksgiving, but Sam had asked me to learn and sing a song from the cd (Labor of Love) with him at church.

And so, for a few weeks now, the kids and I have been listening to this cd, which really could be a for anytime of the year. My kids favorite is called "Matthew Begats," where he sings of Christ's lineage from Abraham....it is quite catchy, though I don't know if I will ever memorize it. One of my favorites is the song about Moses where he sings "Lord let your judgement passover us, Lord let your love hover near, don't let your sweet mercy pass over us let your blood cover over us here."

This has become my "new" favorite Christmas cd, that is really not a Christmas cd...so, what about you? Do you love or hate Christmas music? And if you love it, what is your favorite?

Ok, this is getting a little scary...I just updated my Facebook to say that I was listening to the Andrew Peterson Cd...Freaky my friend!!! :-)

I think my all time fav has alway been "TN Christmas"....grew up here...moved up North for 7 years...the lyrics would bring me back to my childhood (especially come on weather man) and I have no idea why, but I would torture myself and listen to it every year at Christmas and just cry cry cry! I was so homesick...now we have been back here for 6 years and I still have to hear it...guess it has become a tradition....my fav cd of all??? SCC for sure! Love that man!

so glad you are enjoying the cd. Andrew is my hero and a very humble one at that. i have to say that it is my favorite christmas cd for it's depth, but as far as immediately putting me in the christmas mood i have to say that gene autry does it for me. we used to listen to that when we put up the tree at home. you can't beat the classic, "Merry Texas Christmas You All."

I love Christmas music also! Amy is my all time favorite, but I'm a huge fan of hers. However "Child of the Promise" is a must! I LOVE that CD! Also, love SCC.

I'm so happy to hear you love "Child of the Promise". Not many have heard of it. Made me smile and what to listen to it.

We LOVE Christmas music here at our house, and start listening to it in late September! My favorite Christmas CD this year is Josh Groban's, lots of great stuff on there. But growing up it was Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith. I also STILL own my Elvis RECORD, that I play for the kids that has "Blue Christmas!" Yes, we have a record player!! :) My teenager LOVES Tran Siberian Orchestra, my 10 year old loves Alvin and the Chipmunks! :) So there you have the Covert Christmas Music History!!!!!

Delectable treats! I am not drinking coffee at night, but I am eating cashews right this minute! No photos, no coffee mention--I shall just have to say that you are well loved and appreciated! (Even if you are cliquish.) ;-)
BTW, that coffee container is SO awesome!

Yes, I know. I spent the majority of my high school years living outside of Wichita, Kansas. When we moved to California my senior year everyone just ASSUMED that I'd be surfing every day!! California has a little bit of everything. That's one of the GREAT things about it (okay, really, maybe the ONLY thing). We live about an hour outside of Tahoe, so we get plenty of snow during the winter months, but we're only about a 2 and 1/2 hour drive from many beaches. I would LOVE to visit Tenn. someday. I've tried to convince my hubby to move back there somewhere (my heart is still VERY much there), but he has been spoiled by the paychecks in this state. He looked into it, and apparently the pay is much different for his profession in every other part of this nation! So, we're content here for now... enjoying the snow and surfing. :0)
